Finding the
Health Within
The 4 Tenants of Osteopathic Medicine
The person is a unit of body, mind and spirit. The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing and health maintenance. Structure and function are reciprocally related. Rational treatment is based on understanding the basic principles of body unity, self-regulation and the interrelationship of structure and function.
Why choose Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment?
Osteopathic Medicine is a distinct branch of medical practice that emphasizes a whole-person approach to treatment and patient care.
Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or DOs, are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine. Dr. O’Neill is licensed in Family Medicine.
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) integrates a doctor’s detailed understanding of anatomy and physiology and a highly-trained sense of diagnostic touch with gentle manual movements to realign and rebalance body structures; to include the cranial sacral system.
Since the entire body interacts as a dynamic network, imbalances in one area can cause maladaptive compensations in another area. This can result in pain and/or interfere with nervous system, circulatory, and internal organ function. For this reason, Dr.O’Neill evaluates and treats the entire body to remove restrictions and restore the body’s innate ability to heal.
OMT can help patients of all ages and backgrounds. Although it is often used to treat muscle pain, it can also help provide relief for asthma, sinus disorders, headaches & migraines, chronic pain, mood disorders and other ailments. In many cases, the treatment can be used to complement, or even replace, medications or surgery.
“To find health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease”
— Andrew Taylor Still, MD • Founder of Osteopathic Medicine
